Huichol Mexican Beaded Necklace

Huichol Mexican Beaded Necklace

The Huichol or Wixáritari (Huichol pronunciation: /wiˈʃaɾitaɾi/) are an indigenous people of Mexico living in the Sierra Madre Occidental range.

In Huichol art , the unifying factor of the work is the colorful decoration using symbols and designs which date back centuries.

Originally made of corals and other natural materials, modern Huichol beading often uses commercial beads, but still utilizes the sacred symbols passed from generation to generation. This art form provides an income to the indigenous craftspersons.

These beaded earrings have been hand-carried from Mexico by a friend straight to Myths of Creation, where they artisans sell directly.
