The Human Design of the Eclipse

On November 8th, we will have a Lunar Eclipse in Taurus.

The more I dive into the language of Astrology and Human design, the more I see there are multitudes of ways we can tell the story of the stars. Astrology has many branches:

Some people study humanistic astrology (like Jessica Lanyadoo),which is focused on how astrology can support our lived human experience.

Others focus on evolutionary astrology (like Steven Forrest), which speaks to our soul and psychological development over the expanse of multiple lifetimes. And there are countless other streams in the vast ocean of these modalities.

While I don’t believe you have to choose one lens, I do think it is important to understand what your personal intention is when you decide to look up the cosmic weather patterns.

Before I dive into the energies I see present in the eclipse, ask yourself your personal intention for looking into the sky’s choreography.

To me, this particular eclipse highlights the ongoing dramatic tension between Saturn and Uranus, which have been forming a square to one another off and on since early 2021.

Squares are uncomfortable tense aspects between planets. They occur when two planets are at cross purposes and are challenged to find a way to be with the uncomfortable tension long enough to to find ways towards resolution. This takes incredible patience, and oftentimes effort, and imagination.

Saturn is the planet of maturation, and the less-than-lighthearted structures it takes to accept limitation and work with it rather than against it in order to build foundations that will stand the test of a human lifetime.

Uranus is the planet associated with genius and disruption as well as shocks to the nervous system. Saturn plays the long game by doing the hard work. Uranus wants to timeline jump and doesn’t believe the slow and steady climb is the best or only way. How do these two energies learn to acknowledge, and perhaps even support one another?

ECLIPSES ARE TIMESPACE PORTALS

Eclipses are seen as times of acceleration when the two lights in the sky, the sun and the moon, create the illusion of disappearing one another.

Think about this:

The sun is made of plasma, or superheated gas, a cosmic fire that is so hot it conducts electricity, and so strong that it can travel 93 million miles to get to the earth and still cause a sunburn.

With this in mind, it makes absolute sense that any disruption the Sun may experience has the potential to cause disruption to our human bodies and psyches. After all, our bodies have electromagnetic fields. (Are thoughts not electrical?)

When the earth’s shadow blots out the sun, it can feel like time is warping or that we are going through a change in gravity. And actually, we are. Time is not a constant or a straight line, but rather a variable that changes depending on the gravitational field.

Time SLOWS down around large masses. When you experience gravity, you are experiencing a slowing down of spacetime due to the size of the earth’s mass and its effect on the spacetime surrounding it. (If you need a visual, click here.)

So to me, when three large celestial bodies line up (because the sun, moon and earth have to line up in a very specific way for an eclipse to occur), there will be a gravitational change, and therefore a time warp. Some say this is esoteric. I say, physics and science tell the same story as astrology.

Unpredictable Energy

Ancient astrology speaks of eclipses as unpredictable energy, which is why it is not suggested that you charge your crystals or work with intentional rituals on an eclipse. Uranus throws yet another level of unpredictability into the mix.

What I also find interesting is that the sun and moon are very personal planets, Saturn speaks to patterns and trends that are collective and Uranus to the collective consciousness on a broader scale.

To me this eclipse seems like a bridge and a turning point in which our foundations, structures and linear ways (Saturn) will be challenged by a disruptive shift in consciousness (Uranus), not just regarding the earth, agriculture and energy grids, but also to our senses, our relationship to matter itself, and all of the planetary bodies, (Taurus and Aquarius).

China recently “discovered” a new mineral from lunar samples containing Helium-3. Scientists believe this crystal form has the potential to be used in nuclear fusion, which means it could be a new resource for energy production that mimics the energy creation that naturally occurs in stars.

This is not something that will happen anytime soon, but it does bring up a very important question.

What right do we have colonize and mine other celestial bodies and lands? Is this a form of domination we are taking into interstellar technology (Saturn in Aquarius)?

It is possible new forms of energy creation could help us phase out of fossil fuels, and somehow remind all of the inhabitants of earth that we can choose between mutually-assured destruction or mutually-interdependent evolution and health. But is mining the moon the same as mining the earth? Is there an ethical way to take minerals out of the ground? Whose right is it to extract from any planet?

I am not one to speculate on the future with astrology, but rather someone who is fascinated by interconnective patterns and ways of making meaning that feel authentic and true for every one of us. These questions of interstellar mining are a higher octave of the ethical concerns in historical colonization.

From a Practical and Personal Standpoint

Uranus is electric and so is the body. When we are working with the energy of Uranus, it’s helpful to think about our nervous systems and what we need to ground its electrical networks. Just like our electrical gadgets need grounding cords, so do our electric bodies.

Salt baths, forest bathing, putting our feet or hands in dirt, and drinking spring water with natural minerals can help us understand and ground the electrical storm of Uranus in a way that that upgrades our energetic software rather than short circuits us.

Because Saturn rules Capricorn, it is associated with the skeletal system, bones and joints. When I think of Saturn, I think of dryness and potentially brittleness. In order to keep us from drying out, we might want to do gentle movement, and enjoy very easy connective activities like having tea with friends near bodies of water. Anything that supports and lubricate our joints, like yin yoga, or flossing feels extra supportive right now. What principles give you a strong spine without making you morally rigid?

Minerals and water are great to work with when Uranus is in an earth element.

When the energy in the atmosphere is electric, it’s best to give yourself extra space to process, and to make space for unexpected turns of events. You may need extra sleep or time between your appointments in order to clear your mind, your head and your heart.

Because the energy can carry a rising tension, whatever you can to do unwind, whether it is a few deep breaths or sitting under a tree you love, will put you in a better position to observe what the eclipse is trying to rearrange for you rather than feeling reactive. Reactivity is usually encountered when we feel under-resourced, misunderstood or alone. So what can you do to resource yourself in small ways.

Human Design Energies

The Sun is in the Gate of The Artist and the Moon is in the Gate of the Divine Feminine Visionary

From a human design standpoint,

the Sun is in the gate of the Creative and the moon is in the gate of the divine feminine visionary.

We might be wondering what we want to create (gate 1, the artist)

when we sit with the deepest parts of our psyche (Scorpio),

and how we can trust our higher vision and sense of direction (gate 2, the visionary)

even when we cannot explain it from a mental place,

but instead sense it in the soul intelligence (gate 2) our body (Taurus).

When you put it all together,

facing our fears with emotional depth helps inform our creative potential, (Scorpio, Gate 1)

and getting deeply in touch with the eternal soul that inhabits our bodies allows us to find a new direction, (Moon gate 2, Taurus)

so we can discern and identify which structures actually help humanity evolve (Saturn in Aquarius),

and the remember our innate knowledge of how to support our nervous system,

so we can be the vessels for insights, breakthroughs and genius,

even when the forms our genius take are surprising, overwhelming or disruptive in nature (Uranus in Taurus)

It is time to ground. It is time to be deeply creative. It is time to become familiar with your body’s brilliance and to take responsibility for even the most “out-there” insights you have been having in secret for all this time.

It will be a challenge to stop hiding your brilliance. It will require strength to promise yourself to take care of your vessel, your values and this earth so that you can birth that electric idea you’ve been quietly courting for the last year or two.

The genius you get to embody in this lifetime is unique. Steward it with responsibility, but also remember that in the process of bringing in the new, the most abundant state to be in is relaxed excitation: present and focused, but surrendered to being a tiny but important particle in the breath of the cosmos.
